What Are the Most Common AC Problems in Arlington?

In my 8 years servicing Arlingtonhomes, 80% of the emergency repair calls I get come down to a handful of issues. Here's what I see most often — and what each one typically costs to fix.

AC won't turn on

Usually a failed capacitor ($500), contactor ($600), or a tripped float switch. Diagnostic identifies the exact cause.

Blowing warm air

Low refrigerant from a leak, failed compressor, or iced-over evaporator coil. We find and fix leaks — we never gas-and-go.

Frozen evaporator coil

Restricted airflow or low refrigerant. Shut the system off and call us before it destroys the compressor.

Water leaking from indoor unit

Clogged drain line ($350) or damaged drain pan ($1,200). A $400 float switch prevents future water damage.

Loud grinding or rattling

Worn blower motor bearings, loose fan blade, or failing compressor. Don't ignore it — small noises become big repairs fast.

Short cycling (on/off/on/off)

Weak capacitor, oversized system, failing thermostat, or refrigerant problem. Short cycling kills compressors in under a year.

Why ArlingtonHomeowners Trust Frosty's for AC Repair

Arlington is about 45 minutes west of our Farmers Branch shop straight down I-30W, and the AC repair calls we run in this city split hard between the older central/north neighborhoods and the newer south Arlington builds. Central and north Arlington — Rush Creek, Dalworthington Gardens, the streets around Lamar and Division — are full of 1960s-80s ranch homes with original 3-ton R-22 systems and ductwork that's spent 40+ years baking in 140-160°F attic heat. Those calls are capacitor failures ($500), contactor pitting ($600), seized fan motors, and refrigerant leaks where the copper has finally pinholed at a vibration point. South Arlington — Parkside and the 76001-76018 ZIPs — is 1990s-2010s newer construction, and the failures there look more like ECM blower board faults (up to $2,800), TXV issues on 2-story homes, and zoning damper problems.

One thing I'll note about Arlington that's a little different from the Collin County cities we serve: humidity reads slightly higher here, especially down in southern Arlington close to Joe Pool Lake and the Trinity bottoms. Higher humidity means evaporator coils ice up faster when refrigerant gets low, condensate drains clog more aggressively with biofilm, and indoor blower wheels coat with sticky dust that throws CFM way out of spec. If your Arlington AC is short-cycling, freezing up, or just isn't pulling humidity out the way it used to, the root cause is almost always one of those three — and a $85 diagnostic (waived with repair) tells you exactly which one. Homes near the Entertainment District (AT&T Stadium, Globe Life, Six Flags, UT Arlington) sit on slabs and have attic-mounted air handlers like the rest of DFW, so the playbook is the same.

Every repair we do in Arlington is flat-rate — the price I quote at the start is the price you pay. I'm EPA 608 Universal certified (#2396328), Mariafernanda is the license holder (TACLA126718E), and we've been doing this since January 1, 2018. 94 Google reviews at 4.9 stars. We never gas-and-go on a low refrigerant call — HVAC systems are hermetic and sealed, so if it's low there's a leak, and we find it, fix it, and recharge to manufacturer spec. If you want someone who'll show up, give you a real diagnosis, and not upsell you, call (469) 254-0548.

AC Repair FAQ for Arlington, TX

How much does AC repair cost in Arlington, TX?

Diagnostic $85 flat (waived with any repair). Most Arlington repairs land between $350 and $1,500: capacitor $500 ($425 for Frosty Club members), contactor $600 ($510), blower motor $750-$1,500 ($637.50-$1,275 for members), refrigerant leak find-fix-recharge $350-$1,000. Flat-rate means you see the total before we touch a wrench — never by the hour.

Can you still service my older Rush Creek or Dalworthington Gardens R-22 system?

Yes. I'm EPA 608 Universal certified, so we can legally recover, recycle, and recharge R-22. But R-22 hasn't been produced since 2020 and now runs $150-$200 per pound. For 1960s-70s Rush Creek and Dalworthington Gardens homes with major leaks or compressor failures, I'll quote both repair and replacement side-by-side so you can compare. New installs are R-454B or R-32 only.

Do you offer same-day AC repair in Arlington?

Yes — we're about 45 minutes from Arlington via I-30W, so same-day calls are routine when we have an opening. Frosty Club members get priority scheduling and jump the line during 105°F heat waves. Call (469) 254-0548 and we'll give you a real ETA, not a 4-hour window.

Why does my south Arlington 2-story keep running hot upstairs?

In 2-story Parkside and south Arlington homes (1990s-2010s builds), the usual suspects are a failing TXV (thermostatic expansion valve) on the upstairs zone, an ECM blower running under-spec, or a zoning damper stuck open or closed. Higher humidity in this part of DFW also accelerates evaporator coil fouling, which kills CFM. The $85 diagnostic finds the exact cause — adding more zoning won't fix an airflow or refrigerant metering problem.

Why does my Arlington AC keep freezing over?

Three causes account for almost every Arlington freeze-up: low refrigerant from a leak (we find and fix the leak — never just gas-and-go), restricted airflow from a dirty filter or fouled evaporator coil, or a failing blower motor running under-spec. Arlington's slightly higher humidity makes coil fouling worse, especially in southern ZIPs near Joe Pool Lake. The $85 diagnostic identifies which one and we fix it flat-rate.
