Every fall, I get the same question over and over: "How much is this going to cost?" And every fall, I give the same answer: "Let me look at it, and I'll tell you the exact flat rate before I touch anything." We are a flat-rate company. No hourly surprises, no "the parts cost more than we thought," no add-ons halfway through the repair. This post is my full 2026 price list for DFW furnace repair, the exact numbers I quote at every kitchen table.
I'm Omar Jacobo, EPA 608 Universal Certified, co-owner of Frosty's HVAC (TACLA126718E). Family-owned in DFW since 2018. These are the real numbers.

Why Do We Charge a Diagnostic Fee?
We charge an $85 diagnostic fee because proper diagnosis takes time and tools — combustion analyzer, manometer, multimeter, amp clamp, and 20-40 minutes of testing. The diagnostic fee covers the time and expertise to identify the actual problem so we can quote an accurate repair, not a guess.
Here's the key rule: the $85 diagnostic is waived if you approve the repair. So for most calls, you pay only for the repair itself.
Example: You call because your furnace won't heat. I arrive, run diagnostics, and find a failed flame sensor. The repair is $400. You approve. Your total bill is $400, not $485. The diagnostic gets folded into the repair.
When would you pay only the diagnostic?
- The system is beyond repair and you decide to replace rather than fix
- You want a second opinion after calling us
- The repair quote is out of your budget and you want to wait
That $85 is my time, my fuel, my tools, and my expertise — and it's the fairest fee in DFW for a proper diagnosis. Many competitors charge $89-$149 for a diagnostic that isn't waived with repair. Ours is.

How Does Flat Rate Compare to Hourly Pricing?
Flat rate protects homeowners from hourly surprises because the price is fixed before work starts, regardless of how long the repair takes. Hourly pricing penalizes you when a repair goes longer than expected.
Real example from last winter: I had a flame sensor job in Coppell that should have taken 30 minutes. The sensor was in an awkward spot on an old Carrier unit, and pulling the burner assembly added 45 minutes. Flat rate was $450. On an hourly job that would have been $300-$500 labor plus parts — same outcome, but with anxiety about the clock the whole time.
Flat rate also incentivizes the tech to work efficiently. Nobody is dragging feet to pad the bill. The faster I fix it, the more jobs I can do that day, and the more homes I can help.
What Are the Most Common Furnace Repairs in DFW?
Based on hundreds of service calls across our six-city service area, these are the top 8 furnace repairs I see every winter:
1. Complete Flame Sensor Repair Service — $350-$500 all-inclusive ($297.50-$425 for Frosty Club members)
The #1 most common repair. The flame sensor is a small rod in the burner area that confirms the gas actually ignited. Carbon buildup or a failed sensor causes the burner to fire briefly, then shut off. Fast repair, easy diagnosis.
2. Complete Hot Surface Ignitor Repair Service — $350-$500 all-inclusive ($297.50-$425 for Frosty Club members)
The ignitor glows orange and lights the gas. When it cracks or weakens, the furnace clicks but doesn't light. Replacement is a 20-minute job once you're there.
3. Complete Capacitor Repair Service — $500 all-inclusive ($425 for Frosty Club members)
Motor capacitors fail in the Texas summer heat, and the blower motor stops spinning. You'll hear a hum but no airflow. Our complete capacitor repair service is a flat $500.
4. Complete Thermostat Repair Service — $250-$500 all-inclusive ($212.50-$425 for Frosty Club members)
Old mechanical thermostats, failing mercury switches, or dead digital thermostats cause strange cycling. The Frosty Thermostat (our brand smart thermostat, included free on new installs) is the replacement I recommend most often.
5. Complete High-Limit Switch Repair Service — $350-$500 all-inclusive ($297.50-$425 for Frosty Club members)
The safety that shuts the burner when the heat exchanger gets too hot. When it fails, it trips early and causes short cycling. See my short cycling post for the full diagnosis walkthrough.
6. Complete Gas Valve Repair Service — $500-$800 all-inclusive ($425-$680 for Frosty Club members)
The valve that lets gas flow to the burner. Failure causes no heat, weak flames, or intermittent lighting. Mid-range repair, less common than sensor/ignitor jobs.
7. Complete Blower Motor Repair Service — $750-$2,800 all-inclusive ($637.50-$2,380 for Frosty Club members)
Standard PSC motors are $750-$1,500. ECM (variable speed) motors run up to $2,800 because the parts are expensive. If your blower is screaming, whining, or not running at all, it's often the motor.
8. Complete Control Board Repair Service — $650-$1,200 all-inclusive ($552.50-$1,020 for Frosty Club members)
The brain of the furnace. When it fails, nothing works right. Board replacement is straightforward but parts are expensive on modern high-efficiency systems.
What If the Repair Costs More Than the System Is Worth?
Use the 50% rule: if the repair cost exceeds 50% of a new system, replacement usually makes better financial sense. For a typical DFW home, a new HVAC system starts at $8,000, so the 50% threshold is $4,000.
Examples:
- $500 complete flame sensor repair service on an 8-year-old furnace? Repair, easy call.
- $3,500 complete compressor repair service on a 14-year-old system? Close to the line. I'd lean toward replacement if it's a Stay Cool or Stay Frosty replacement that also cuts your energy bills.
- $5,000 repair on a 20-year-old system? Replace. No question.
- Cracked heat exchanger at any age? Replace. We never repair heat exchangers due to carbon monoxide risk.
The Department of Energy also notes that replacing a 15-20 year old furnace with a modern high-efficiency unit typically cuts heating bills by 15-30%, which factors into the replacement math.
