Frosty Club Membership: Is It Worth It? (We Did the Math)

By Mariafernanda Jacobo, Licensed HVAC Technician (License TACLA126718E)

I get this question all the time: "Is the Frosty Club membership actually worth it, or is it just another subscription?"

Fair question. So let's do the math — real numbers, real scenarios, no spin. I'll show you exactly when it saves money, when it doesn't, and which tier makes sense for your situation.

The Two Tiers

Basic — $99/year

  • 10% off any repair
  • Priority scheduling
  • No overtime charges
  • Transferable membership

Premium — $300/year

  • $500 off any repair
  • 15% off parts
  • 2 tune-ups per year (spring AC + fall heating) — a $300 value
  • Priority scheduling
  • No overtime charges
  • Transferable membership

Scenario 1: The "Nothing Broke" Year

You just need a basic tune-up before summer. No repairs.

| | No Membership | Basic ($99) | Premium ($300) | |---|---|---|---| | Spring tune-up | $150 | $135 | $0 (included) | | Fall tune-up | $150 | $135 | $0 (included) | | Membership cost | $0 | $99 | $300 | | Total spent | $300 | $369 | $300 | | Net savings | — | -$69 | $0 |

Verdict: If nothing breaks and you only do one tune-up, Basic costs you an extra $69. But if you do both tune-ups (which we recommend — spring for AC, fall for heating), Premium breaks exactly even on the tune-ups alone. Every repair after that is pure savings.

Scenario 2: One Common Repair

Your capacitor fails in July. You also get your annual tune-up.

| | No Membership | Basic ($99) | Premium ($300) | |---|---|---|---| | Diagnostic | $85 | $76.50 (10% off) | $72.25 (waived with repair) | | Capacitor repair | $500 | $450 (10% off) | $0 ($500 credit) | | Spring tune-up | $150 | $135 (10% off) | $0 (included) | | Membership cost | $0 | $99 | $300 | | Total spent | $735 | $760.50 | $372.25 | | Net savings | — | -$25.50 | +$362.75 |

Verdict: Basic is still slightly behind — the 10% discount hasn't cleared the $99 membership cost. But Premium saved $362.75. The $500 repair credit covered the capacitor, and the tune-up was included. Premium paid for itself and then some.

Scenario 3: A Bigger Repair

Your blower motor dies. Standard PSC motor replacement.

| | No Membership | Basic ($99) | Premium ($300) | |---|---|---|---| | Diagnostic (waived with repair) | $0 | $0 | $0 | | Blower motor repair | $1,000 | $900 (10% off) | $500 ($500 credit applied) | | 2 tune-ups | $300 | $270 (10% off) | $0 (included) | | Membership cost | $0 | $99 | $300 | | Total spent | $1,300 | $1,269 | $800 | | Net savings | — | +$31 | +$500 |

Verdict: Now Basic starts saving money — $31. Premium saved $500. For any repair over $990, Basic is in the green. For Premium, the $500 credit plus free tune-ups make any repair over $0 a win.

Scenario 4: Major Repair (The Real Test)

Your compressor fails. This is the repair everyone dreads.

| | No Membership | Basic ($99) | Premium ($300) | |---|---|---|---| | Diagnostic (waived with repair) | $0 | $0 | $0 | | Compressor replacement | $4,000 | $3,600 (10% off) | $3,400 ($500 credit + 15% off parts) | | 2 tune-ups | $300 | $270 (10% off) | $0 (included) | | Membership cost | $0 | $99 | $300 | | Total spent | $4,300 | $3,969 | $3,700 | | Net savings | — | +$331 | +$600 |

Verdict: Basic saved $331. Premium saved $600. On a major repair, both tiers more than pay for themselves. Premium saved almost double the Basic savings.

The 3-Year View

HVAC systems need ongoing maintenance, and most systems need at least one repair over a 3-year period. Here's what the total cost looks like over three years.

Scenario: 2 tune-ups/year + 1 moderate repair ($1,000) in year 2

| | No Membership | Basic ($99/yr) | Premium ($300/yr) | |---|---|---|---| | Tune-ups (6 total) | $900 | $810 | $0 (included) | | Year 2 repair | $1,000 | $900 | $500 | | 3 years membership | $0 | $297 | $900 | | 3-year total | $1,900 | $2,007 | $1,400 | | 3-year savings | — | -$107 | +$500 |

Scenario: 2 tune-ups/year + 2 repairs ($750 + $2,000) over 3 years

| | No Membership | Basic ($99/yr) | Premium ($300/yr) | |---|---|---|---| | Tune-ups (6 total) | $900 | $810 | $0 (included) | | Repair 1 ($750) | $750 | $675 | $250 | | Repair 2 ($2,000) | $2,000 | $1,800 | $1,500 | | 3 years membership | $0 | $297 | $900 | | 3-year total | $3,650 | $3,582 | $2,650 | | 3-year savings | — | +$68 | +$1,000 |

Over 3 years with normal maintenance and a couple of repairs, Premium members save roughly $1,000. That's not a gimmick — that's just math.

Who Should Get Basic vs Premium

Basic ($99/year) makes sense if:

  • Your system is newer (under 5 years old) and unlikely to need major repairs
  • You only want one tune-up per year
  • You want the 10% discount as insurance in case something breaks
  • You're on a tight budget but still want priority scheduling

Premium ($300/year) makes sense if:

  • Your system is 8+ years old (repairs become more likely)
  • You want both spring and fall tune-ups included
  • You want the $500 repair credit ready if something breaks
  • You value priority scheduling during peak summer (non-members can wait 3-5 days)
  • You plan to sell your home soon (transferable membership adds value for buyers)

Skip membership entirely if:

  • Your system is brand new with full warranty coverage
  • You've never spent more than $200 on HVAC in a year
  • You're planning to replace your system this year anyway (replacement pricing is separate)

The Priority Scheduling Factor

The savings matter, but priority scheduling might be worth more than the discount — especially in DFW.

When it's 105 degrees in July and half of Irving has their AC down, our schedule fills up fast. Non-members might wait 3-5 days. Members go to the front of the line.

If your home hits 90 degrees indoors with kids, elderly parents, or pets, getting service tomorrow instead of Thursday is worth more than any percentage discount.

Both Basic and Premium include priority scheduling. Both include no overtime charges — so that evening or weekend call doesn't cost extra.

What Members Actually Say

We don't use fake reviews. Here's what real homeowners say about working with us:

"Omar with Frosty's HVAC is an absolute rockstar! It got up to 101 degrees in my home because our HVAC went down and he had us up and running in 15 mins! Very professional, efficient and great customer service."

"We feel very fortunate to have found Frosty's HVAC. Omar and Maria are professional, friendly, and efficient. It's so important to have a reliable company you can feel confident in."

That kind of response time is what priority scheduling looks like in practice.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Frosty Club membership cost?

Basic is $99/year — you get 10% off any repair, priority scheduling, and no overtime charges. Premium is $300/year — you get $500 off any repair, 15% off parts, 2 free tune-ups per year ($300 value), priority scheduling, and no overtime charges. Both tiers are transferable if you sell your home.

Does Frosty Club membership pay for itself?

Basic pays for itself if you spend $990+ on HVAC services in a year (you save $99+ at 10% off). Premium pays for itself with the 2 free tune-ups alone ($300 value) — and one repair of $500+ puts you ahead. Most members save $200-$800 in their first year.

What's the difference between Basic and Premium?

Basic ($99/yr) gives 10% off everything. Premium ($300/yr) gives $500 off any repair, 15% off parts, 2 included tune-ups per year, priority scheduling, and no overtime charges. Premium is designed for homeowners with older systems or anyone who wants full coverage.

Can I use my Frosty Club membership at any of your service locations?

Yes. Your membership works across our entire service area — Farmers Branch, Coppell, Irving, Flower Mound, Lewisville, and Grapevine. Priority scheduling means you go to the front of the line, especially valuable during peak summer when wait times can stretch to 3-5 days for non-members.

Is the membership transferable if I sell my home?

Yes. Both Basic and Premium memberships are fully transferable. If you sell your home, you can transfer the remaining membership to the new homeowner — which is a nice selling point. The membership follows the home, not the person.
