I'm Mariafernanda, co-owner of Frosty's HVAC. I handle most financing conversations with our customers, and I understand why it's stressful. When your AC dies in July and you're looking at an $8,000-$20,000+ replacement bill, the last thing you need is confusion about how to pay for it. Here's exactly how HVAC financing works, what options we offer, and what to expect.
Why Do Most DFW Homeowners Finance HVAC Replacement?
Because a full AC replacement is one of the largest single purchases most homeowners make, and it almost always happens unexpectedly. Our pricing ranges from $8,000 for a basic 1.5-ton Stay Cool install to $20,000+ for a 5-ton variable-speed It's A Frosty Life. Very few families have that much cash available on short notice, especially when the old system fails in the middle of a DFW summer.
Financing spreads the cost over 3-10 years, keeps your monthly payment manageable, and lets you install the right tier for your home instead of the cheapest option you can afford cash. In many cases, the energy savings from a new efficient system cover part of the monthly payment.
What Financing Partners Does Frosty's HVAC Use?
We work with three established HVAC financing partners:
1. Optimus
- $0 down on approved credit
- Terms: 3-12 years
- Fixed monthly payments
- Often has promotional offers (0% APR for 12-24 months on qualifying purchases)
2. Synchrony
- $0 down on approved credit
- Terms: 3-10 years
- Same-as-cash promotional periods
- Widely recognized brand
3. GreenSky
- $0 down on approved credit
- Terms: 3-15 years
- Simple application process
- Competitive rates for well-qualified borrowers
All three run soft credit pulls for pre-qualification, which doesn't affect your credit score. Only when you accept a final offer does a hard pull happen.
What Are the Typical Monthly Payments?
A rough rule of thumb: take your system cost and divide by 60 months. That gives you a reasonable estimate for a 5-year term with standard rates. Here are realistic monthly payments for our tiers (60-month terms, standard rates):
Stay Cool (Goodman 15 SEER2, single stage):
- 2 ton ($9,500-$11,000): ~$158-$183/month
- 3 ton ($12,500-$14,000): ~$208-$233/month
- 4 ton ($15,500-$17,000): ~$258-$283/month
Stay Frosty (Carrier 18 SEER2, dual stage):
- 2 ton ($11,500-$13,500): ~$192-$225/month
- 3 ton ($14,500-$16,500): ~$242-$275/month
- 4 ton ($17,500-$19,500): ~$292-$325/month
It's A Frosty Life (Trane 20+ SEER2, variable speed):
- 2 ton ($15,500-$17,500): ~$258-$292/month
- 3 ton ($18,500-$20,500): ~$308-$342/month
- 4 ton ($21,500-$23,500): ~$358-$392/month
These are estimates — real rates depend on your credit, promotional offers at time of financing, and term length. Longer terms (10-15 years) drop monthly payments but increase total interest paid.

What Credit Score Do I Need?
Each lender has slightly different thresholds, but generally:
- 720+ (excellent): Best rates, longest terms, most promotional offers
- 680-720 (good): Standard rates, most options available
- 640-680 (fair): Qualified for most programs, slightly higher rates
- 600-640 (below average): Secondary options, higher rates
- Below 600: Limited options, may need co-signer or larger down payment
We check with multiple lenders on behalf of customers, so even if one denies, we often find an option with another. No guarantees, but we try.
How Does the Financing Process Work?
Step-by-step:
- Quote in hand. We come to your home, evaluate your system, and provide a written flat-rate quote for whichever tier you choose.
- Pre-qualification. You fill out a short application online or by phone. Soft credit pull, no impact to your score. Results usually within minutes.
- Offer review. You see exact terms: monthly payment, interest rate, total cost, term length.
- Accept or decline. If you accept, a hard credit pull happens and the loan is formally approved.
- 50% deposit at booking. Our standard deposit requirement. Can come from the loan proceeds or out of pocket.
- Installation scheduled. Typically within 1-3 days of approval during peak season.
- Balance due on completion. The loan releases the remaining funds when we finish the install.
- First payment. Usually 30-45 days after installation, depending on lender.
Why Is the 50% Deposit Required?
Full AC replacement requires us to order equipment, schedule a crew, and in some cases pull city permits before we arrive at your home. The 50% deposit covers our upfront costs and confirms your commitment. The balance is due on completion — if we don't finish the job, you don't owe the balance.
This is standard practice in flat-rate HVAC. Any company that asks for 100% upfront is a red flag. Any company that asks for 0% upfront on a $15,000 install is likely charging you for the risk through higher prices.
Can I Finance an Emergency Replacement Same Day?
Usually yes. Our lenders have fast online applications — most decisions come back within 15-30 minutes during business hours. If you're approved and accept terms in the morning, we can often install the same day or next day depending on equipment availability.
For real emergencies (complete system failure in peak summer), we prioritize same-day installs and can work with lenders for expedited processing. Frosty Club members get priority scheduling at no additional cost.

What About Promotional 0% APR Offers?
Our lenders periodically offer 0% APR for 12, 18, or 24 months on qualifying purchases. These are real — not "teaser" rates that flip to 29% after 6 months. We pass promotional financing directly to customers without any markup.
Current promotional availability changes monthly. Ask when you call or during your quote visit. If a promotion exists that fits your situation, we'll tell you.
Should I Finance or Pay Cash?
Two considerations:
Pay cash if:
- You have the funds available without tapping emergency savings
- You want to avoid any interest costs
- Your credit isn't strong enough to qualify for good rates
Finance if:
- You don't want to drain savings or investments
- Promotional 0% APR is available
- Monthly payments fit comfortably in your budget
- You want to match the payment schedule to the system's useful life
For most DFW homeowners, financing makes sense because it preserves cash flow during what's often an emergency purchase. The interest cost on a 5-7 year term is usually less than what you'd earn on the cash in investments or savings.
What Does Our Full Replacement Actually Include?
